SEO - What SEO Actually Is?

The first obvious thing I should explain when it comes to SEO is what SEO actually is and deals with and so on. Well, let us start with the very first thing - SEO is the acronym for Search Engine Optimization. Now, you also need to know that SEO deals with the process of optimizing your web pages (be careful, this also involves maximizing them, and the way your website links with others - exchange links and so on). The way you exchange links between your website and another website in a way that will give you a higher ranking for a certain specific keyword is the main thing with SEO.

The Importance of SEO

Most people are not yet quite cleared when it comes to this subject. Many people still ask what the exact use of SEO is, and some that are in this area do not even know how to answer in an exact way. This tutorial is meant to shed some light on this subject - think about it, there are many people that each and every day research a certain information on the Internet using search engines such as Google, Yahoo! Search and so on. You must have seen that for every given search term there will be several results, the number varying from a few tens of answers to a few million results that are somehow connected to the given term. Of course, some of the results may not indicate what you would want to find out, but they are connected with the term you researched. However, you must have seen that most of these search results that appear will be, most of the times, sorted based on their relevance to the keyword you inserted in the search box. In other words, the more closer a subject is to a keyword, the higher it would be in the results order.

As a result of what I mentioned above, most people will click the first ten or maybe 15 results that will appear within the result pages. Most of the results that come after that do not have that much relevance with the subject one researched and it will only be connected through a phrase of some sort with the certain keyword. In addition, if the answer cannot be found within those first fifteen results most probably a new search will be initiated. Now, you may ask, what is the connection between website ranking, and Google search results for example. Well, in order to for a website to gain more traffic it is almost a must for it to appear within those fifteen web results.

However, there are ways to get your website around those “most relevant ten results” and you can optimize your website so that you will gain more traffic by simply showing up within those results. Of course, the way you work on optimizing your website has to be in such a way that it will outperform many other websites that are within the algorithm. If you have a good optimizing plan, you can literally place your website from the 4th result page within the first ten results. You can surpass many well-built and keyword-related websites if you indeed use those SEO skills, as you should.

Many SEO tutorials, articles and websites existing on the internet share, in my opinion a lot of useless information, and this mostly happens because they forget to explain the basic things and they go too far with unimportant details, that anyone would gain with experience. For example, I have recently seen a website that was crowded with methods to put your website up between the first ten search engine results but what the website forgot to mention was which of all those method were necessary to get up there. An inexperienced person might figure that as long as all of those boost your website's ranking, then why not use all methods. I personally hate the SEO training websites that forget how to be exactly on the topic and most of the times become SEO information vendors - they simply practice SEO on their own SEO information.

What is the most unfortunate thing about those websites is that instead of teaching you something basic and clear, on which you can later add small details, they show you this huge amount of information that you will never assimilate in a logical way, and everything may seem at least a bit too crowded. In order to get your website between the top ten websites you do not need all those details. Actually, as a webmaster the basics of SEO are everything you need to know, because within the basics you will find the perfect methods based on which you can raise your website's search engine ranking.

Basic Rules

However, no matter how much experience you will have with in this area, you will always follow some rules. The only difference is that once you have been for a while in this field, these rules will simply seem common sense rules.
  • 1. The rule of the rules is very important - you mat not understand much from that small sentence, but it actually says that you always have to follow the rules of the search engines. In order to use SEO with Google or Yahoo it will be necessary for you to abide to their rules. Remember that this rule is a very important one with SEO, and in the beginning, try not to throw it away.
  • 2. Keywords are gold - This is much clearer, it simply shows that the basis of SEO is keywords. I explained you above that in order for someone to locate you, certain keywords will be necessary. The rule of the keywords is easy and it says that you will gain more traffic if your keywords have a better match.
  • 3. Pick the titles with care mostly because using keywords in the title will increase your page rankings by quite a lot. You see, the title has to be descriptive, but it is necessary to contain at least one of the keywords.
Good luck!
